Black people were in a different position and looked at different in society when this Voting Rights Act was passed in the 60's.
This is 41 years later.
Regardless, if the act is not renewed, we can still vote. This is just like the whole "send blacks to africa issue"...that's never going to happen... why do you think the FBI ratted out Marcus Garvey to W.E.B. DuBois about Garvey's interactions with the KKK? Why do you think they allowed integration? they don't want black people to leave period. We are producing around 700B or 650B a year... we are needed in the economy...trust me regardless of what happens we can still vote...
That act was only needed to stop the racists at the polls. We are getting all worked up over nothing. We are citizens and HUMAN BEINGS, NATURALIZED in America. Our lineage extends back generations in this country (well, most of us). Blacks are not the same today as yesterday. We should not base our degree of "Americaness" or ability to be an equal in society because we are dependant on congress every 25 years to affirm that. Blah. we ARE equals. In spite of socioeconomic/political conditions.
