There are some in this community that feels that I am out of touch because I am a Black Conservative.
For the record I too used to be a Black Grassroots Activist. A very hardcore activist that was the original architect of the MAD Writer Productions. I used to bleed Black Nationalism. I used to be a bleeding liberal and supported all Democratic policies.
I studied with the Nubian Islamic Hebrews and Ansaarullah Community on Grand River back in the day. Read books from Dr. York like Leviathan 666, Was Christ Really Crucified and The Day of the Pentecost.
I was part of the Holy Tabernacle Ministeries and Nuwaubian Moors back in the day.
I hung with the Nation of Gods and Earths on Jefferson Ave. I remember battling at night with the Gods and Earths on the Supreme Lessons.
I studied with the Ausar and Auset group.
I was with Blackwatch at one point.
Rolled with the Revolutionary Workers League for a minute.
Supported BAMN for a hot minute.
I studied with the Nation of Yahweh.
I studied with the Nation of Islam (under John Muhammad, Farrakhan and Solomon Allah).
I hung with the Black Israelites.
I rolled with the Black Hebrews under Rabbi Ben Ammi.
I studied the Black Radical Congress.
I was a member of ASCAC.
I spent five years with the Shirne of the Black Madonna of the Pan African Orthodox Christain Church. Four of those years was with the Black Slate where I produced and hosted the radio program on FM 88.1 WHPR. Anyone in the present day grassroots in Detroit know I was active in the Shrine and was a Maccabee (the security force of the PAOCC).
I have debated with the Jewish Defense League on stage as well as ACLU.
Hung out with the New Alliance Party under Lenora Fulani.
Studied with the Masons and Eastern Stars. I was a member of the Ancient Egiptian Order and Ancient Mystic Order of Melchezidek.
Supported the New Marcus Garvey Movement in Detroit under Min. Malik Shabazz.
Supported Keep the Vote No Takeover in Detroit.
Built with the late Dr. Khallid Abdul Muhammad.
Studied with Dr. Llaila Afrika, Dr. Yosef ben-Yochanan, the late Dr. John Henrik Clarke, Dr Ivan van Sertima, Dr. Molefi K. Asante, Dick Gregory, Dr. Marimba Ani and even Dr. Frances Cress Welsing.
Read the works of Dr. Conrad W. Worrill, Dr. Jacob Carruthers, Ernie A. Smith, Ph.D., Dr. Greg Kimathi Carr, Muata Ashby, CLR James, Amos Wilson, Walter McCray, Cheikh Anta Diop, Nathan and Julia Hare, Na’im Akbar, the late Harold Cruse, Gerald Massey, Chancellor Williams , J.A. Rogers, Cornell West, Henry Louis Gates, Albert Cleage, Carter G. Woodson, Booker T. Washignton and WEB DuBois to name a few.
Music I listened to (and in many cases still do):
Boogie Down Productions
Big Daddy Kane
Tribe Called Quest
Jeru the Damaja
Intelligent Hoodlum to name a few.
After living my life as an angry Black man for so many years I gave all that up. It led me to a dead end.
To all of you who read and call me names on this blog all I can say is:
Been There and Done That.
