DPS Downsizing by Akindele Akinyemi
I just received word not even 10 minutes ago from a Detroit Public School Official that they are preparing to downsize high schools within the district.
They might downsize the schools anywhere from the present number to as low as nine schools.
I know for a fact that Chadsey High School is on the chopping block.
Again, students within these schools that are being downsized will either be forced to go to other schools outside of the district or fill up charter schools in Detroit. Others will just drop out.
For all of those who supported Jennifer Granholm and the Democratic Ticket in Detroit you should ask yourself this question. How come Granholm will not raise the cap off charter schools in Michigan knowing that a potential crisis is going to happen?
I will never get an answer to that question from anyone.
For young Black Conservatives this is a PRIME opportunity to seize the moment by pushing for more educational options within the school district. Educational Empowerment ones, Educational Economic Precincts, School/Business Alliances and specialized charters are necessary to help build a conservative urban regional power within the Democratic stronghold.
