Today, we are sending a stern message to our lawmakers in Lansing and Washignton D.C. that we want more charter schools in Michigan. We are no longer going to sit around and wait for a pie in the sky to fall from heaven. The only entity we want coming down from heaven that will help break the cap off charter schools is Jesus Christ.
It is a well known fact that Detroit Public Schools will never be the same as our children and families continue to make their exodus from these crime ridden schools that have continued to plague the quality of education for decades now without any results or punishment. While DPS continue to brag about schools like Cass Tech, Renaissance, DSA and King (all good decent institutions no doubt) other high schools like Redford and Mackenzie are on the chopping block.
Normally, I would recommend a management company to step in and partner with DPS to bring the school back to credibility but at this point I feel that DPS should get out of the way and allow the management company to do its thing.
Children feel safer in charter schools unlike schools like Kettering and Finney. More students are passing the MEAP tests in charters and we have statistics to show and prove that as well.
This is why groups like the NAACP should pay attention to Black conservatives like us that are educated enough to show them where the trend is going. Black America has always been conservative but fused in old civil rights tactics. Today, Young Black America is more conservative, young adults are fusing consciousness with conservativism as well as introducing the Silver Rights Movement of Prosperity. We have taken Powernomics to a whole different level.
If the NAACP want to see a spike in its membership with young people then it must begin it tap into the current trend of education. Young adults with families are moving into the suburbs for better opportunites. Young adults are more likely to support educational options (charters, vouchers and universal tax credits) than their old counterparts. Young adults do not care about the rhetoric of old school civil rights activists like Julian Bond or past CEOs like Kwesi Mfume. They care about lower taxes, affordable health care, and competiting in a free fiscal market.
The NAACP should also take heed that there is nothing they can do to stop the flow of student traffic into the charter schools. yes, we are for draining resources right out of DPS and this is the reason why I am for regionalizing DPS by integrating it with Wayne RESA. Allow RESA to run the school system not a local school board.
However, since the NAACP is still respected in our community I feel it is time for Black Conservatives and Black Republicans to integrate, assimilate and re-create the NAACP and help change some of its liberal mindset. We must bring the NAACP back to its natural roots instead of allowing educational unions to run it. We must bring it back to it's pristine purity to give our children a fighting chance.
