The Democratic Party is now in control of the United States Congress. The Michigan Democrats will soon be in control of the State House next week.
The Democrats are going to begin to roll out their annual "Urban Agenda" platform. This is a platform where the Black Caucus (State or Congressional) sit down and discuss the issues in front of hundreds of Black people who are stuck on color consciousness. They bring up issues like health care, education and welfare and most of the time it is the same result...more government spending and raising taxes.
These "Urban Agenda" platforms or conferences are the most lopsided platforms that I have ever witnessed. These platforms do not give any balanced perspective on how to solve the problems in the community. They exclude other races of people who live in the urban community as well. The Urban Agenda is nothing more than Black elected officials or leaders show boating, blowing up their egos and giving out emotional rhetoric about how we need to rekindle the 60s with Black power and how much we hate Republicans.
These Urban Agendas also leave us feeling good when we come out of these meetings. In other words, it is a feel good session full of Black talk. They may invite a liberal speaker like Michael Eric Dyson to talk about how the Bush Administration have turned their backs on Black people. They will invite someone like Harry Belafonte who calls Black Republicans tyrants. Some sophisiticated scholars like Ron Walters from the University of Maryland will come in and call Black Republicans "failures." They will even show Spike Lee's documentary on Hurricane Katrina to remind Black people that the Republican Party do not like African Americans in the United States.
Action is only a word that is thrown around at these meetings but never executed. The Urban Agenda discuss the need to buy Black but never educating business skills to Black owners on the power of customer service. The Urban Agenda talk about education but never talk about educational options by lifting the cap off charter schools, vouchers and designing educational empowerment zones within the urban community.
The Urban Agenda have the same organizations involved: The NAACP, Black Caucus, local grassroots people from the Black community who hate white people, Urban League, and other liberal organizations that talk loud but saying nothing.
We do not need an urban agenda. We need an urban execution of fresh ideas from fresh young adults who are Democrats, Republicans and Independents. It is time for the old guard to sit down, take a seat and allow young adults to lead. These young adults should lead on conservative principles based on conservative technology. All young elected officials should be on board (regardless of political affiliation) in terms of supporting educational choice in the community.
