The End Of Black Theology by Akindele Akinyemi
In order for Blacks to build urban regional power in urban communities in 2007 we must redefine the theology in which Black liberals have embraced for the past 4 decades.
That would be Black Liberation Theology.
I spoke on this subject almost a year ago now and while Detroit and other urban communities are having trouble economically families are being broken up spiritually due to the basic lack of understanding of what a true understanding of spiritual and educational values.
As we prepare our urban conservative movement here in this region it is going to be imperative for us to shift the debate on whether Black Liberation Theology is dead or needs to be taken in a different direction.
To begin I strongly feel that this theology is dead. Here is why.
The main method employed by Black Theology is to manipulate embittered young Blacks by turning their feelings of inferiority, alienation, jealousy, hopelessness and self-hate, into racist rage against Whites, Asians, and affluent Blacks who are conveniently blamed for their lack of personal initiative to better their lot in life. While those who follow Black Theology claims to give Blacks a better self-image, they unwittingly encourage a poor self-image among Blacks by defining "blackness" in such negative terms as "the poor," "the oppressed," and "niggers." Why must we define the "Black Experience" in such negative terms? All Blacks do not live in the ghetto subsisting on welfare and engaging in filth and crime. They cry about how affluent Blacks are not helping the "little" people when in fact the "little" people have not done anything to help themselves.
What's strange is that while some pastors who teach Black Theology blast people like Keith Butler and Creflo Dollar who are into prosperity these same fools are into prosperity themselves by feeding off the very poor who is caught up in race when they should be caught up in the Word. These ministers play into the emotions of the young people who are uneducated and buy them off mentally by speaking "deep" to them. It's just like the Nation of Gods and Earths with the 120 lessons. Young people buy into anything that sounds good. Old people will join in to rekindle the never ending battle between Black and White.
The same applies for Black Theology. With its constant emphasis on God loves the poor, the oppressed, etc. Black Theology actually paralyzes and demoralizes Blacks to accept a parasitic life-style dependent on the government dole instead of fostering self-reliance and entrepreneurship. As a former Black Theologist myself I have seen this with my very own eyes. So many people were dependent on the government for assistance and on welfare and while there are so many opportunities out here to go to school, jobs, etc.. they choose to live a poor, socialist way of living called communalism.
The old heads who were part of the Civil Rights Movement or Black Power movement uses Black Theology to feed off of class, envy and racist rage. Instead of spending their time blaming the White man for the Black man's problems, today in 2007, Black Theology should be moving and encouraging Black men and women to become financially successful through hard work and self-reliance. I have been saying for years that the old heads in the Black grassroots have a firm belief in crabs in a barrel. They are always pulling you down when you are trying to get out of the vicious cycle of victimhood.
Think about it. How many Black pastors, ministers, or even parishioners are millionaires within this movement? How many Black Nationalist or socialist are millionaires or even living a decent lifestyle? Why must they live in the ghetto when there is nothing they can do to turn it aorund in the first place? If they open up a business I guarantee you it will be broken into in les than twop weeks. Let me ask this question from this angle. Regardless of who or what they are worshipping, how many rituals they perform, etc.. what has the God, deity, etc they worshipped done for them to help their family become propsperous?
Those who follow Black Theology from an old school perspective often describes the Black man as a helpless victim of forces and people beyond his control. But this negative stereotype often leads people to accept poverty, drugs, crime and filth as their unalterable fate.
Black liberals from the pulpit makes a great mistake when it assumes that poverty automatically means crime and filth. Just because you are poor does not mean you have a license to rob, rape, or murder others. The poor are for the most part good and honest people. Crime is crime regardless of who commits it. Poverty is no excuse for criminality and no excuse for not trying when you get up every day.
Black Theology gives the impression that the Black man's problem is his skin instead of his sin.
Think about it. During the late 60s and early 70s how many young people were attracted to Black Theology? A whole lot. Those young people are now either middle aged or old. Their off- spring are seeking other measures to find spirituality through Christ. The old people are upset with their very own offspring.
Because Black Theology in 2007 is dead. It does not exist anymore as it did in 1970. It is rooted in misguidance from people who were placed in ministerial positions based on their political stance in the community and church.
So how can Urban Conservatives began to save this type of liberation theology in 2007? can it be saved? We know liberals have killed it and ran it in the ground. How come it has not worked for Black people?
First, we need to tell the truth. Black Liberation Theology is a concept created by white, middle-class, European, Marxist, liberal theologians to foster social change by manipulating the lower classes to violent revolution against democratic governments in order to establish a communist state. Thus Black Theology did not originate in Africa but in Europe.
The fundamental ideas of Black Theology did not come from Black schoalrs or Black pastors but from such White European thinkers as Hegel, Darwin, Marx, etc. It is Eurocentric in its ideology although it is Europhobic in its rhetoric. Today, Black liberal theologians are in reality "Uncle Toms" still licking the boots of their White, Marxist masters at such bastions of White Liberalism as Princeton, Yale, Harvard, etc..They are the slaves of Karl Marx.
In fact, go into any church that preaches Black Theology and you will see the Catholic/Lutheran/Baptist twist to it.
Anyone who believes in Democratic Centralism or such foolishness like Democratic Nationalism to maintain control of a group of people who has no means of becoming free thinkers are Uncle Toms and should not be taken serious as men or women of God.
You will never see followers of Black Theology supporting the Republican Party. They all support the Democratic Party. The Democratic Party is a party that believes in government should take care of the masses. Black Theology believes in the same concept. Some will go as far as talking about the liberation of Black people. If that is the case then why is it when Black people become Republicans they are met with this same group with fierce opposition and defiance? I thought they believed in the liberation of Black people. They do not believe that Black people are not a monolithic type of people.
Real liberation comes from understanding the true nature of God. God, not Black people, is the only one that can liberate us from oppression and depression. Young people are being liberated today by understanding God, family values and economic prosperity. We are going to school to better ourselves and while the Democrats in Michigan has gutted the state's economy we are moving out of Michigan to find better opportunities for our families. That is REAL liberation not some silly racist rhetoric.
Black Theologists are not the most healthy people either. Most are still eating pork, beef and indulging in cigarettes, beer, and alcoholism. Many are on drugs and practice unhealthy lifestyles that leads to early deaths in their lives. I thought we are supposed to live a healthy lifestyle not smoke weed and become alcoholics. All throughout the Black Nationalist movement we see this type of behavior over and over again. Some are married and practicing infidelity life 40 going north. Relationship swapping is normal in the Black Nationalist community. Some in the Black Nationalist community (and Black Theology movement) feel that a man should have more than one woman because "it is in our genes as Africans." It is a cancer in our community and while living and accepting a more healthier lifestyle by getting a regular checkup annually at the doctor's office those who follow Black Theology turn to pseudo-herbs to heal their bodies. While some of the herbs work this should not be the sole means of medicine. I have yet to find one Black Theologist into Melalucca.
In order for this type of theology today to work it must evolve from the Socialist concept and get into the spiritual concept of living. Stressing to the congregation about free market enterprises is what will help young people get in tune. Our young adults are into the Silver Rights (not Civil Rights) Movement. Most people who follow Black Theology today do not understand the spiritual nature of God and even though they pray daily they still find hardships in their personal lives. They have been told that God is making them struggle when God has already ordained man and woman on this Earth to have free will. Struggle is a CHOICE not a MANDATE.
The other thing about Black Theology is turning religion into sociology, Christianity into a political agenda, Jesus into a Black Marxist Revolutionary Messiah, and the Gospel into violent revolution. They are more interested in politics than preaching the gospel. While I feel politics play an important role in church urban conservatives feel it should not be the ONLY agenda in the church. Too many times I have been in churches with a Black Theology twist to it and all they preach throughout the sermon is politics. And the poltics is not even balanced. It's always some liberal Democrat who paid for an endorsement they are screaming about. If I want to hear politics then I can go on Booker Rising.
Youth ministries are non-existent in these type of churches. The youth minsters have a liberal thought pattern to their teachings. Children should be taught a conservative form of biblical teaching. We should be placing emphasis on education, family values and economics in our children. Children in this Black Theology movement should embrace relationship building between boys and girls and understand that males are brothers in Christ and girls are sisters in Christ. The old leadership always place the youth on the back burner in Black Theology churches.
Black Theology must place an emphasis on family and relationship building. This is noticeably absent in churches who teach Black liberation theology. Ask any Black Theologist about family values from an biblical perspective and you will not get an answer. Ever. Many brothers and sisters within this movement have never been married, never had children, swapping with other members of their congregation or practice a certain lifestyle (homosexuality). All of this is accepted in the Black Liberation Movement within these churches.
Black Theology must begin to address wealth creation within the framework of the church. This means TEACHING the congregation how to balance a checkbook, not spending over their means and not bankrupting their family fiscally. Teach the congregation to invest in a credit union for the church. Talk to the children about investing in stocks and bonds. Teach those who are about to retire in the next 5 years to think about other options other than a 401K to live off of. Even Primerica is a start for most of these Black Theologists.
Wealth Creation is more than just opening a bookstore, selling Matah products and reading Powernomics by Dr. Claude Anderson. Most cannot even begin to open their business because they do not have a line of credit to begin with.
Those who follow Black Theology should also invest in housing and property. Investments can come from owning the building of where you might house your charter school or growing corn on farmland and because alternative fuels are huge right now in this country selling corn from your farmland would generate millions for the church community.
There is not a large emphasis on education within this movement. Most are illiterate and cannot articulate issues pertaining to Black people. They rely heavily on Democratic dogma and philosophy. Their educational agenda is based on conspiracy theories, socialist newspapers and word of mouth. Those who are educated from a 4 year university or have graduate degrees do not even believe in the concept of communalism at all. They are just as individualistic as the rest of the world. All Black churches who practice Black Theology have a 100% voting record for the Democratic Party.
It's good to teach the historical aspect of Black history in the Bible but it does not mean a damn thing if we are not applying it. We come from kings and queens who were wealthy so why are we preaching poor, oppression and struggle to our children and community if we come from a great line of wealth? You cannot tell me that White people wiped us out of our riches when we are also descendants of Native Americans and own land somewhere down South for us to invest in. Give me a break.
The reason why young people will not embrace Black theology because Black Theology is a dead theology that will never be brought back to life. In this day and time it has outlived its time. The only people who are embracing it today are old people from the 60s and 70s. They sit around and tell old war stories about what they used to do instead of living in the present. Young people are not joining these churches, they are joining churches like Word of Faith and Perfecting Church in Detroit, MI. Young people want to be prosperous and be educated so they can give back to their communities. Some have been in long term relationships in these churches and while they decided to get married some take it a step further by practicing absenteeism before marriage. Young people. You will not see his in churches that preach Black Theology.
The only ones that will be able to bring it back to life are urban conservatives who are conscious enough to understand our destiny is with God and prosperity. We can make Black Theology the real thing if old heads would just move out of the way. Otherwise, Black Theology should be buried right next to Black Nationalism.
