It was brought to my attention this morning that State House Democrats passed a bill to pass a $200 Million Dollar TAX INCREASE disguised as tipping fees on garbage. In other words, if you have garbage you will have to pay more.
Detroit should be paying attention to what their beloved elected Democratic leadership is doing. You already cannot even pay the damn water bills let alone your car note and now DEMOCRATS want a tax increase on garbage.
Now keep this in mind of how State Democratic House members stayed up last night to get this passed along party lines. No Republicans voted for this foolishness. Even a Republican who hates Detroit had enough sense NOT to vote for a tax increase. I hope those who voted for Granholm last November see what is going on.
Especially you independents who lean Democratic. While you were too lazy and trifling to READ what Dick DeVos was offering Detroit you took the lazy ass route and voted for someone who has increased the number of young people moving out of state (like what I am trying to do).
What is more interesting is that these same Democrats (who people were excited to see get back in office) pushed these bills through, without public discussion. Were there ANY focus groups, neighborhood association meetings or town hall meetings on this tax increase?
This is called being stupid at its best.
Ridiculous public policy, and Detroit legislators need to be held accountable for this as well as out county. I have yet to find one person in the city to explain what is the best way for re-populate Detroit. The grassroots community have no answer. Democrats think raising my taxes is the key when they can barely afford it themselves.
This is no more than a stealth tax hike that was disguised as "tipping fees" on garbage disposal. If you have private garbage collection in your community, you will have to pay. The Democrats also passed increased fees on a number of other services.
Our Democratic leadership have no love for urban communities across Michigan. They want our vote every election cycle and even come into our churches but when they are elected they are afraid to stand up and say "hey, I cannot raise taxes in my community because poor people are already being taxed. We are already leaving Michigan because of the tax hikes."
I am dying to hear from my Democratic colleagues of why they support tax hikes when we cannot afford it in the first place. I am also love to hear of why we cannot keep young people in Michigan.
